Sega Sammy Holdings CEO Hajime Satomi confirmed recently that there is a live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie underway, and it should hit theaters sometime in 2018. Because, you know, the live-action Super Mario Bros did so well.
“Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live action and animation hybrid Sonic The Hedgehog movie scheduled for release in 2018,” Satomi said in an interview, where he also apologized for every Sonic in the last ten years sucking eggs.
Sega’s European marketing director Jon Rooke added to that thought. “It’s been tough translating that iconic side scrolling 2D experience from the ’90s into 3D, but Sonic is still huge for us so the new games will be more inspired by how it played in its heyday.”
So how do we bring this full circle? Easy.
Bob Hoskins gets cast as Robotnik. That’s right, I said it. ROBOTNIK. “Eggman” is a stupid, stupid name for one of science’s most misunderstood geneticists!
Come on people! Let’s make this as viral as stupid Mark Ruffalo for Columbo!
