Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Shows a Turtlier, Funnier Side

Remember that time when Spider-Man went all goth and looking like a depressed groupie for Good Charlotte (who?!) instead of his usual wise-cracking self? If you’re writing Marvel Comics and that happens, you just go “Oh, hey, look! Peter was really a clone these last, uh, 10 years. HERE’S the REAL Spider-man!” If you’re the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s easier. “Um, Tobey? Get lost.”

Well, our wise-cracking heroes on the half-shell, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had a bit that phase too. If you recall their last outing, it didn’t start getting funny until the end (at which point it actually became pretty hilarious, but a little too little, too late, IMO). Fortunately for everyone, the film makers have decided to bring back the funny, enough so that halfway through the new trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Bepop’s gotta ask, “Y’all got jokes, huh?”

Check out the trailer as some familiar bad guys make their debut, mainly Rocksteady and Bebop, but very little of sexy April O’Neil. What do you think? Does it hit the right tone? Did they forget to show us more Megan Fox looking foxy?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows debuts June 3.
