It’s been over 22 years since Doom first came to PCs across America, ushering in a new era of video gaming: the First Person Shooter. There had been other early attempts in that period, but Doom was the first game that EVERYONE was talking about, and for good reason. A mission on Mars goes from weird to… Hellgate on the Red Planet? A few years ago, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson tried to bring the venerated game to the big screen (and to be fair, it’s a lot better than Double Dragon or Street Fighter), but let’s be honest, it’s been a long time since Doom was cool.
That changed today.
Bethesda, makers of such fine games as the Fallout series and the Elder Scrolls, announced that their new reboot of Doom will be released on May 13, 2016 for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. It promises to be scary as hell, and one hell of a game. Check out the trailer right here:
Bethesda also announced there would be pre-order bonuses and a special collector’s edition of the game (who doesn’t anymore?) that will run diehard gamers a cool $119. Any pre-order or collector’s edition purchase gets players the Demon Multiplayer Pack, which consists of a special demon armor set with three skin variations, six metallic paint colors, three id Software logo patterns that can be added to weapons and armor, as well as a set of six Hack Modules—one-time consumable items that can serve as boosters during multiplayer matches. The collector’s edition also comes with a 12″ tall statue of the Revenant, one of the more famous mobs in the game.
What do you think? Can the Fallout 4 team bring back the magic that was 1993 Doom? I actually got a job in 1993 because the boss needed help installing Doom. Maybe I should brush up on my game installation skills again. They’re mad, yo. Mad install skillz. Let us know what you think in the comments.
